Enjoy!

Wearied by blood and thunder
Primed by the fall and rise
Tortured by restless wonder
And taught by the long unwise

The gateway doffs her cloak of night
For master's harrowed aid
Awash in dreams of bloodied sight
And driven towards the bloody fight
Abandons the guarded shade

Broken by land asunder
Sundered by love astray
Rousing the fallen plunder
The gate makes for timeless way.

Part 1 of Broken is titled "By Land", and this prophesy opens Part 1 (which you can read free here). It foretells Larin's adventure through the course of Book 2.

The prophesy's 13 lines mirror the book's 13 scenes involving Larin, and I love the poem's stumbling, broken meter. Do you know who the gateway is now?

The merfolk culture is built on the prophetic Gift. Nearly all men produce a portent every twenty days, and they devote their lives to interpretation. For more about the role and inner workings of prophesy, check out the Prophesy Appendix above.

Alongside every prophesy is an attribution block. This block contains a byline giving the name of the person who said the prophesy, and a dateline giving the day the prophesy was first said. Here is the attribution for this portent:
Davyi Swohka Dohari XVI
2:2:1:4/13, 1:1:2 IX
V 3:1:3:5/5, III:IX
The portent attributed here has been interpreted, and it references multiple events that culminate on an exact date. An additional verified dateline has been added to the attribution, noting the final date when the portent comes to pass.
